Get from idea to paying customers in 4 weeks

This article is a case study of how I launched a course from idea to paying customers in four weeks. I show exactly what I did so you can use it to create your own products with less time and effort. Let’s go. Part 1: So many ideas, so little time In February 2021, I had an idea for a course. I didn’t even know what exactly the course would be, only that it would be for creators and entrepreneurs....

4 ways to do a year reflection

The year’s end is an opportunity to zoom out from the daily chaos and see the bigger picture of where your life is going. What worked well for you this year? What surprised you? What do you want more or less of in your life? Learn about yourself I’m doing a reflection every year. I like to mentally close whatever I fucked up last year and move on towards the sweet sweet failures awaiting me in the next one....

Be bad to get good

Whatever you are trying to learn, if you are not willing to be bad at it first, you will never get good.

#21: Output routine

Last week sucked. 3 reasons why: Right off the gate, I burned myself out on writing about my monthly review process. It was 3-4 times longer than my usual Monday post, taking over 8 hours of work. Not a good idea to push myself to finish 2k words in 1 day. Lesson learned. Then, I got re-stuck on writing the System guide. That never gets old. So, as a momentary run-away project, I worked on an article that I decided not to even finish because after 2 days of work I realized the idea is maybe strong enough for a tweet, but not an article....

#20: How I do my monthly review

Today, I’ll show you a monthly review of my productivity System. November was okay but not great, so it’s a good month to share. I will go through each part of my review process and explain what’s happening and why. The goal of my monthly reviews is to see my life and work from a higher perspective. I go through everything that happened and change what doesn’t work. I won’t explain every detail, but I will try to make things clear enough, so you can steal whatever you like and use it in your life....

#19: Big messy projects

I had a slow week. It happens when I’m pushing a big project over the finish line. Each step feels like it takes forever. I want to finish it faster because I started the project as a short article about how to design a system to organize your work and life while I was doing 20+ interviews for the book. Well, the article became a five-chapter guide. Still unfinished after a month of work....

#18: Rage

Last week, I worked on an About page to make my blog less anonymous. And putting it together reminded me why I write. Today, I want to share that reminder with you. The Flower Thrower Five years ago, I was on a weekend trip to Amsterdam. I went to a gallery there for the first time in my life. (It was before I smoked anything that day. Just wanted to mention it because I know you’re thinking it....

#17: Killing my Youtube habit

Last week, I realized I might have a problem. Too much Youtube. It always creeps up on me. I see it coming but do it anyway. Sure, why not… It starts with an innocent thought: “Hey, it’s a long time since I watched some gaming videos." So I do, and it’s fun. Then I think: “Hmm. It wouldn’t hurt to install the game and play a game or two....

#16: When introvert goes super social

I talked to 11 different people this week. Eleven! More than 1 individual human person per day on average. In my typical week, I spend most of my days bunkered up in a studio surrounded by whiteboards. Interaction with humans is banned. I have rules for that. I meet people, sure. But I must average something like 2,4 people per week, never 11. Human contact in double digits is a health hazard for an introvert....

#15: How to write books as a designer

Hey there, I’m still writing a book. #persistence Almost there… Writing a book as a designer Last week, I realized I can write this book the same way I design a product. (Thanks, Rob.) What does it mean? It means I’m not going to write this book in secret for 6 months, hoping it’s going to be good. No. Instead, I’m talking to people since day one to make sure I’m creating something useful....
